Services

The Institute of Local History is a civil, non-profit organisation involved in the long-term cultural and environmental study of local communities.

The Institute undertakes and supports activities developed by Local Authorities, the public and the private sector in Greece and abroad. Its objective is to record, preserve, safeguard, study and promote traditional culture and protect cultural heritage and identity, as well as to aid the local peple to develop a historical consciousness and to realise their special, distinguishing qualities through their participation in educational and training programmes.

In the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge about history and archeology, with the use of published and anecdotal materials and the application of modern technology.

In the formation of historical consciousness and in the realization of the uniqueness of the local population through its participation in educational and training programs.

In the recording of anthropogenic and other effects on land, seabed and lakes, as well as in the awareness of the causes of pollution

In promoting interdisciplinary research around the cultural and natural environment.

In the preservation, preservation, study and promotion of traditional culture, in the protection of cultural heritage and cultural identity.

In order to achieve its goals the Institute of Local History makes use of all available means and provides services such as:

Producing and publishing studies and other documents in the form of special magazine editions, manuals, books, articles, CD ROM and web pages

Cunsultancy on historic, archaeological, environmental research, and implementation of construction works.

Structuring and managing databases.

Building digital applications using Geographical Information Systems (GIS).

Holding educational events (lectures, seminars, etc.) scientific conventions, symposia and meetings.

Organising and supporting exhibitions and museums on local history and the environment.

Formulating proposals for the protection and utilisation of areas of interest from an environmental and/ or historical and archaeological perspective; planning and carrying out actions for alternative tourism by composing quides, tracing paths and organising guided tours.

Classifying material of public and private organisations and individuals, and editing it for use in exchibitions or publications.

Organising educational projects for students.

Training students and young scientists to conduct field research in collaboration with Academic and other educational and Vocational Organisms.

Survey, collection, classification and documentation of all types of direct or indirect information sources. Storage of information is implemented in a variety of audiovisual and digital media.

Photography and film production.
